{"id":35220,"date":"2013-04-21T10:31:29","date_gmt":"2013-04-21T14:31:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=35220"},"modified":"2013-04-21T10:31:29","modified_gmt":"2013-04-21T14:31:29","slug":"brits-deal-with-veterans-false-claims","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=35220","title":{"rendered":"Brits deal with veterans&#8217; false claims"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Common Sense sends us a link to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-2312242\/340million-compensation-culture-infects-Armed-Forces-36-000-claims-payouts-past-seven-years.html\">UK&#8217;s Daily Mail<\/a> in regards to false claims clogging up their Ministry of Defense&#8217; ability to pay legitimate disability claims;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The volume of claims has been partly blamed on \u2018ambulance chasing\u2019 lawyers and the Ministry of Defence, which publicises the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme through adverts and YouTube videos.<\/p>\n<p>Law firms such as Military Lawyers 4U and Harris Fowler advertise their services in military magazines. They have specialist teams to take cases  on a no-win, no-fee basis, but who charge up to 25 per cent of a soldier\u2019s potential payout.<\/p>\n<p>In 2005, when the compensation scheme was introduced, only 365 troops made personal injury claims. By 2011-12 that figure had rocketed to  8,815, more than a quarter of which were rejected.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The article says that out of 36,000 claims in the past several years, 11,000 have been rejected indicating that almost a third are attempts at gaming the system.
