{"id":35058,"date":"2013-04-12T17:52:56","date_gmt":"2013-04-12T21:52:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=35058"},"modified":"2013-04-12T21:47:24","modified_gmt":"2013-04-13T01:47:24","slug":"another-returns-from-korea","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=35058","title":{"rendered":"Two More Are Home"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>DPMO has announced the identification of two US MIAs &#8211; one from from World War II, and one from Southeast Asia.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dtic.mil\/dpmo\/news\/news_releases\/2013\/release_thompson.pdf\">SSG Ray E. Thompson, US Army Air Forces<\/a><\/strong>, formerly of Portland, OR, was buried on 10 April 2013, in Pendleton, OR. On May 7, 1944, Thompson was a member of the crew of a B-24D Liberator that departed Nadzab, New Guinea. Due to mechanical troubles, the B-24D was delayed in departing the airbase and was unable to join the formation after takeoff. \u00a0The aircraft, SSG Thompson, and the nine others aboard the plane were never seen again after takeoff. In 1946, the War Department declared all ten men presumed dead.\u00a0 SSG Thompson\u2019s remains were recovered in 2008 and definitively identified using modern forensic techniques.\u00a0 SSG Thompson appears to have been a crew member on board <b><a href=\"..\/..\/?p=34925\">1LT John E. Terpning\u2019s<\/a><\/b> aircraft.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dtic.mil\/dpmo\/accounted_for\/\"><strong>Maj. James E. Sizemore<\/strong><\/a>, US Air Force, formerly of San Diego, CA, was lost on July 8, 1969, near Xiangkhoang Province, Laos.\u00a0 He was declared formally accounted for (remains repatriated and positively identified) on 9 April 2013.\u00a0 Maj. Sizemore and his navigator, Maj. <span style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica;\"><span>Howard V. Andre, Jr., were lost when their <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/taskforceomegainc.org\/s398.html\">A-26A was downed by ground fire during an armed reconnaissance mission<\/a><\/strong> conducted as part of &#8220;secret war&#8221; operations in Laos (Operation Barrel Roll).\u00a0 At the time of loss, they were assigned to the 609th Special Operations Squadron, Nakhon Phanom Air Base, Thailand.\u00a0 Maj.
