In Ilion, New York, Remington Arms is contemplating leaving the state and take it’s thousands of jobs and tax revenues with it. Yesterday, the Washington Post<\/a> reported that Beretta may do the same thing in Maryland. They figure why should they make a product that their own workers can’t own;<\/p>\n

Concern that the company will leave, and take its 300 jobs with it, is palpable among state lawmakers who worry it could be collateral damage from Gov. Martin O\u2019Malley\u2019s proposed gun-control bill.<\/p>\n

Among other restrictions, O\u2019Malley\u2019s bill would ban assault rifles, magazines with more than 10 bullets and any new guns with two or more \u201cmilitary-like\u201d features. Gun experts said it\u2019s a near-certainty that Beretta\u2019s semiautomatic version of the ARX-160, now only a prototype, would be banned under O\u2019Malley\u2019s bill.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m concerned. I think they\u2019re going to move,\u201d said Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller Jr. (D-Calvert). \u201cThey sell guns across the world and in every state in the union \u2014 to places a lot more friendly to the company than this state.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Berretta has done it before when they moved a warehouse to Virginia after a particularly onerous bill. In total, 44 gun companies have announced their intentions to forbid sales to State Law Enforcement entities in states which restrict gun ownership by their citizens. Maryland legislators still don’t get it, though;<\/p>\n

Del. Joseph F. Vallario Jr. (D-Prince George\u2019s), whose district encompasses the Accokeek plant, said he would do everything he could for the company.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to keep those jobs,\u201d said Vallario, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, which has a key role in approving the legislation.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Well, if you want to keep those jobs, don’t screw Marylanders, dipshit.<\/p>\n
