Clarke, Jr., being completely honest with his constituency, advises them that they&#8217;re better off fighting off criminals themselves than waiting for the police because of their cutbacks in manpower and funding. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ksla.com\/story\/20712081\/sheriff-tells-citizens-to-arm-themselves-police-not-best-option\">KSLA 12 link<\/a>;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Clarke went on the radio this week and questioned police responses.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You could beg for mercy from a violent criminal, hide under the bed, or you can fight back,&#8221; said Clarke on a radio show. &#8220;But, are you prepared &#8211; consider taking a certified safety course in handling a firearm so you can defend yourself until we can get there.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Milwaukee mayor disagrees with the sheriff;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Apparently, Sheriff Clarke is auditioning for the next Dirty Harry movie,&#8221; said Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett.<\/p>\n<p>Clarke responded by referring to an incident where Barrett was beaten outside of a state fair.
