{"id":33527,"date":"2013-01-07T09:17:37","date_gmt":"2013-01-07T13:17:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=33527"},"modified":"2013-01-07T12:33:47","modified_gmt":"2013-01-07T16:33:47","slug":"a-few-fiscal-follies-updates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=33527","title":{"rendered":"A Few &#8216;Fiscal Follies&#8217; Updates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Food Stamps and the Current Economic Recovery<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Yeah, the current administration has the economy just humming along.\u00a0 Just look at the money spent on food stamps during the last 4 years.\u00a0 It\u2019s increased each year the current administration has been in power &#8211; from a bit over $56 billion in 2009 <em>to over $80 billion in 2012<\/em>.\u00a0 And other various Federal food assistance programs <a href=\"http:\/\/cnsnews.com\/news\/article\/federal-food-stamp-program-spent-record-804b-fy-2012\">have raised the total Federal tab for \u201cnutrition assistance\u201d to nearly $106 billion in 2012<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Two things about this bother the hell out of me. \u00a0First, an improving economy should show a <em>declining<\/em> need for food assistance &#8211; not a continuing rise.\u00a0 And as our liberal brethren keep telling us:\u00a0 the current POTUS has made the economy \u201cway better\u201d \u2013 right?<\/p>\n<p>Second: as I\u2019ve previously written, <a href=\"..\/?p=32109\">the Obama administration quietly gutted Clinton-era legal limitations<\/a> on the receipt of food stamps by able-bodied singles back in 2009.\u00a0 <em>Those restrictions have never been restored.<\/em>\u00a0 I have a REAL problem with paying for people&#8217;s groceries so they can to sit on their ass when there\u2019s no reason whatsoever they can\u2019t work and use what they earn to pay for their own.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Isn\u2019t It Nice to See Their Eyes Finally Opening?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>You probably noticed a jump in your taxes already this year.\u00a0 Specifically, your Social Security deduction went up by close to 50% (from 4.2% of taxable income to 6.2% of taxable income, an increase of 2% of your taxable income; [ 2 \/ 4.2 ] = 0.476, which is an increase in social security taxes of 47.6%).<\/p>\n<p>Predictably, many liberals are outraged; some of the comments from DU <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2013\/jan\/6\/obama-supporters-shocked-angry-new-tax-increases\/\">quoted here<\/a> are priceless.\u00a0 I guess they missed the &#8220;temporary reduction&#8221; part.<\/p>\n<p>You can thank the current POTUS and his administration for that particular increase.\u00a0 After all, it was the Obama administration that engineered that temporary Social Security tax reduction during 2011 and 2012 in order to help the economy when it was clear that the 2009 stimulus boondoggle was a failure.\u00a0 But apparently the economy has now recovered, and that reduction is no longer necessary. (Yes, I&#8217;m being sarcastic.)<\/p>\n<p>Hey, DUmmies: for once, the POTUS delivered on a promise.\u00a0 You&#8217;re getting <em>exactly<\/em> what you voted for.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Support Your Local Strip Club \u2013 with Taxpayer Dollars!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Well, that\u2019s the case if you live in NY \u2013 and probably anywhere else that pays cash welfare benefits.\u00a0 But it seems that&#8217;s particularly easy these days in NY.\u00a0 Apparently NY gives both SNAP (formerly food stamps) and cash benefits via EBT card.\u00a0 And there aren\u2019t any restrictions on where folks can get that cash.\u00a0 Rather, it&#8217;s ATM owners that make the call whether or not they&#8217;ll dispense cash from EBT cards that show a cash benefit available.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, there are plenty of EBT-card cash transactions at ATMs in NY these days.  Many of those transactions are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nypost.com\/p\/news\/local\/poor_some_ugar_on_me_0Hq1d3iPnvj2RwpsEDS7MN\">at ATMs near liquor stores, strip clubs, hookah bars, and porn shops<\/a>.\u00a0 Your tax dollars at play.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Now, Where ARE Those Pesky Welfare Recipients?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>But at least NY can tell where some of their welfare payments are being spent.\u00a0 Apparently MA <a href=\"http:\/\/www.myfoxboston.com\/story\/20501831\/2013\/01\/04\/herald-mass-cant-find-19000-missing-welfare-recipients\">can\u2019t find a rather large number of their welfare recipients<\/a>.\u00a0 That could make one wonder just which are real \u2013 and which are Memorex.<\/p>\n<p>But of course, the MA Governor says \u201cdon\u2019t worry about it\u201d.\u00a0 Or was that \u201cpay no attention to the man behind the screen\u201d?
