Albertson?\u00a0 You know, that guy Jonn wrote about last month who <a href=\"..\/?p=32843\">claimed he was a secret POW in Vietnam for 28 days<\/a>, and who had received multiple Purple Hearts and a couple of Bronze Stars for \u201cbravery\u201d?\u00a0 And whose son claimed his missions were \u201cclassified\u201d \u2013 so presumably that\u2019s why he doesn\u2019t show up on any POW lists?<\/p>\n<p>Well, NPRC&#8217;s reply to a FOIA request concerning Albertson\u2019s official records came in the mail the other day.\u00a0 And it turns out there\u2019s a different reason he\u2019s not on any POW lists.<\/p>\n<p>His military records show <em>no<\/em> service in Vietnam.\u00a0 None.\u00a0 Zip.\u00a0 Nada.<\/p>\n<p>His records also show no Purple Hearts or Bronze Stars &#8211; with or without &#8220;V&#8221; device.\u00a0\u00a0 In fact, Albertson\u2019s records show <em>no<\/em> personal decorations of any kind.\u00a0 The only decorations he received were one service medal (NDSM) and one unit award (AFOUA).<\/p>\n<p>Albertson served in the USAF from March 1966 to January 1969.\u00a0 He was retired for \u201cphysical disability\u201d.\u00a0 His duty assignments were for training; then as a medical service specialist; an \u201cR&amp;S Clerk\u201d; and a \u201cduty status clerk\u201d.\u00a0 His duty stations were Lackland AFB (training), Sheppard AFB (more training), and Athenai Airport, Greece (medical clinic and support group staffs).\u00a0 Sometime in late 1968 or early 1969, he returned to Scott AFB &#8211; where he was medically retired.<\/p>\n<p>Greece was Albertson\u2019s sole overseas assignment.\u00a0 For the benefit of those who might be severely geographically-challenged:\u00a0 \u201cGreece\u201d and \u201cVietnam\u201d ain\u2019t exactly the same place.\u00a0 (smile)<\/p>\n<p>NPRC\u2019s reply to the FOIA on Albertson\u2019s records <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/ALBERTSON_FOIA_R_20121210.pdf\">can be found here<\/a>; format is Adobe PDF.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s sad when folks lie to their families about being some kind of \u201cgreat war hero\u201d.\u00a0 Their surviving families invariably end up hurt badly when their lies are exposed after their demise.<\/p>\n<p>But what\u2019s even worse is that this liar was able to get away with falsely claiming to be a Vietnam POW for years.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Remember James R.
