The reason is simple.\u00a0 Excessive regulation, pressure to keep prices artificially low, and reimbursement limitations all drive manufacturers and providers towards other businesses.<\/p>\n
That\u2019s simply due to human nature. \u00a0If a given craft or business doesn\u2019t provide a decent profit for the level-of-effort required, sooner or later people involved will simply become fed-up and will do something else.<\/p>\n
What\u2019s that you say?\u00a0 It won\u2019t happen here with US healthcare?<\/p>\n
Think again.\u00a0 It’s already happening.<\/em><\/p>\n Remember that prescription drug shortage that began a couple of year ago?\u00a0 Well, now it\u2019s looking to be a persistent if not permanent part of US healthcare<\/a>.<\/p>\n Yes, the issue has many causes.\u00a0 But among those causes is manufacturers leaving the market.<\/p>\n Temporary shortages are a reaction to a temporary market imbalance.\u00a0 They\u2019re generally controlled by temporary price rises, followed by increased production.<\/p>\n But chronic shortages show a structural problem.\u00a0 And I\u2019m willing to bet that here it\u2019s largely a self-inflicted issue due to excessive regulation and\/or government control.<\/p>\n Get used to such things.\u00a0 Under AHCA, I\u2019m guessing you\u2019ll be seeing shortages like this in all healthcare fields in a few years, not just prescription drugs.<\/p>\n \u2018Cause when there\u2019s only so much money to go around and an unlimited demand for free stuff, well . . . .<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
