I have to hand it to the Brits this time around.\u00a0 In spite of their bizarre (by US standards) laws regarding firearms and opposition to capital punishment, they still appear to take murder seriously.<\/p>\n

Even when it\u2019s an honor killing.<\/p>\n

Nine years ago, Shafilea Ahmed disappeared.\u00a0 Her body was found in 2004.<\/p>\n

Turns out it was an honor killing.\u00a0 Her own parents killed her in front of her siblings for “bringing dishonor on the family”.<\/p>\n

How did she “dishonor her family”?\u00a0 By wearing jeans and makeup, wanting to be a lawyer, and resisting an arranged marriage<\/a>.<\/p>\n

However, killing her in front of her siblings was a mistake.\u00a0 One was later arrested for burglary \u2013 and turned state\u2019s evidence against the parents.<\/p>\n

Gee, I wonder why?\u00a0 You mean murdering one of your own kids in front of their siblings isn\u2019t<\/em> a good way to ensure their loyalty and love?<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, Shafilea\u2019s parents \u2013 Iftikhar and Farzana Ahmed \u2013 were convicted of her murder.\u00a0 They received life sentences.\u00a0 Under English law, that means they\u2019ll serve at least 25 years.\u00a0 By then both will be in their 70s.<\/p>\n

Hopefully they\u2019ll die in prison vice ever see another day of freedom.\u00a0 And then they\u2019ll have a chance to explain their acts to Allah \u2013 and, possibly, to Shaytan as well.<\/p>\n

Many Islamic extremists subscribe to conservative forms of Islam that condone honor killings.\u00a0 They also want to eventually impose Shaira worldwide.<\/p>\n
