{"id":32417,"date":"2012-10-17T06:05:49","date_gmt":"2012-10-17T10:05:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=32417"},"modified":"2012-10-17T10:03:38","modified_gmt":"2012-10-17T14:03:38","slug":"solyndra-redux","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=32417","title":{"rendered":"Solyndra Redux"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to Bloomberg.com, battery-manufacturer A123 Systems, Inc., <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/2012-10-16\/electric-car-battery-maker-a123-systems-files-bankruptcy.html\">has filed for bankruptcy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Under one of its \u201cgreen\u201d initiatives to encourage the use of electric vehicles, the US government gave A123 Systems a grant of <em>nearly a quarter of a billion dollars<\/em> &#8211; $249.1 million, to be precise &#8211; in 2009 to build a US factory.\u00a0 (Thankfully, A123 systems appears to have <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/2012\/10\/16\/green-energy-company-that-got-240m-in-stimulus-likely-headed-toward-bankruptcy\/\">&#8220;only&#8221; managed to burn through about $129M of the grant<\/a> before going belly-up; the rest is apparently still in the US Treasury.)\u00a0 They also got $125M in Michigan state tax credits to build the factory.<\/p>\n<p>The factory opened in 2010, in Michigan.\u00a0 But the firm couldn\u2019t seem to make a suitable product.\u00a0 Costs of recalling batteries it supplied to electric-car maker Fiskar seem to have nailed the company\u2019s finances badly enough to force bankruptcy.<\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t exactly think this is what Steve Miller was thinking about in 1976 when he wrote \u201cTake the Money and Run.\u201d\u00a0 But maybe it\u2019s apropos as a theme song for the current administration\u2019s \u201cgreen\u201d policies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>According to Bloomberg.com, battery-manufacturer A123 Systems, Inc., has filed for bankruptcy.
