Some of you may remember when I read a book sent to us by a Blackfive reader written by Bob King; Spooky 8, The Final Mission<\/a>. Bob contended that he was recruited out of jump school to be a secret squirrel during Vietnam. Of course, we discovered that he was just a Jump School drop out who went on to be a general’s driver in Fort Sill, OK, but that didn’t stop from writing a completely fictitious book about his exploits and then living in the real world as if it was true.<\/p>\n

Well, here’s another one; Leo J. Maloney. But Leo was more elite that Bob King, because his special skills were recognized in the first few weeks of basic training at Fort Jackson, SC;<\/p>\n

According to Leo’s biography<\/a>;<\/p>\n

In 1966 he was inducted into the army and during basic training he was recruited to become a black ops contractor for a clandestine government agency, and his life changed forever. He traveled the world to strategically important hotspots. As an independent contractor, he was never required to accept a particular assignment, but rather selected ones that met his criteria that it was in the best interest of the country, although once a mission was underway, there was no turning back. Unlike many of his peers, he survived to tell his story.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

He must have really excelled at that Code of Conduct class and Drill & Ceremony to have been singled out by all of the CIA spooks who hang around basic training companies looking for recruits (I know you saw them when you were in basic, right?)<\/p>\n

According to his records, he was going to be an 05B radio operator (like our boy, Dallas). I think his story might have been more credible (but not by much) if they’d recruited him out of Advanced Individual Training instead of in the middle of basic training.<\/p>\n

So, no, I’m buying any of his bullshit books. But, I do have an advanced copy of Dakota Meyer’s “Into the Fire” that will be my main focus this weekend.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
