The Associated Press<\/a> reports that Canadian courts heard intelligence officer Sub-Lt. Jeffrey Paul Delisle’s guilty plea today for selling secrets to the Russians and earning a tidy $3000\/month salary;<\/p>\n

[H]e voluntarily entered the Russian embassy in Ottawa in 2007 and offered to sell information to them.<\/p>\n

He came to the authorities’ attention when he was returning from a trip to Brazil to meet a Russian handler in the fall of 2011, [Federal prosecutor Lyne] Decarie said. He was carrying several thousand dollars after staying the country only four days, raising the suspicions of Canada Border Services agents who shared their concerns with the police and military.<\/p>\n

[Defense lawyer Mike] Taylor said at no time did his client put any Canadian troops in danger.<\/p>\n

“There was no information that indicated where troops were or ships were,” he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The AP says that he faces life in prison under the Canadians’ Security of Information Act which passed just after 9-11-01. Delisle claims that he tried to forfeit his deal with the Russians, but they made threats towards his family. Funny how you can’t trust anyone these days. Even the Russians.<\/p>\n

In related news<\/a>, the Russian foreign minister is complaining that they can’t get along with NATO;<\/p>\n

Sergey Lavrov said Wednesday that Moscow is continuing to seek guarantees that the planned shield wouldn’t pose a threat to Russia’s nuclear forces. He said the failure to negotiate a settlement was rooted in Washington’s refusal to accept any limitations on the missile shield.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
