Jeffery sends us a link to an al Jazeera article<\/a> on the news that some Pakistani minister has offered a $100,000 bounty for the film maker who made the YouTube video about Mohammed which touched off a fire storm of outrage in the last few weeks in the Muslim crescent;<\/p>\n

Railways Minister Ghulam Ahmed Bilour on Saturday also invited members of the Taliban and al-Qaeda to take part in what he called a “noble deed”.<\/p>\n

“I announce today that this blasphemer who has abused the holy prophet, if somebody will kill him, I will give that person a prize of $100,000,” he said.<\/p>\n

Earlier, more than 5,000 protesters, including hundreds of women, marched towards the parliament in Islamabad, chanting “We love our Holy Prophet” and “Punishment for those who humiliated our Prophet”.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I don’t know what a railroad minister would have to do with it, but there you go. At least they’re going after the right person for a change instead of a US ambassador that had nothing to to do with the video.<\/p>\n

In related news, Salmon Rushdie<\/a>, who has been threatened with a fatwa for two decades from the Iranian Revolutionary Council has written a book about his life hiding from the threat of death; <\/p>\n

On the weekend, a state-linked Iranian religious foundation increased the bounty on his head to $3.3 million. Its leader argued that had Rushdie been killed, later cases of Islam being insulted would have been avoided.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

So this latest bounty is weak sauce given that the perpetually outraged can’t make good on their threat against Rushdie. And I wonder how much of that $100,000 bounty will come from the aid that the US Senate voted to not cut this weekend<\/a>. Apparently we’re giving them too much money if they have enough to pay bounties for nearly comical film clips.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
