When our buddy, Doug Sterner first saw the picture, he noticed the redundancy of a “V” (Valor) device on the Silver Star. Since the Silver Star is for valor in the first place, there wouldn’t be a “V” device. The Bronze Star can be awarded for valor or merit, the “V” is necessary to denote for which the medal was awarded.<\/p>\n

I don’t know what the membership rules are for the Marine Corps League, but I’m guessing you have to be a Marine, Gary was a Navy medic which may or may not qualify him. But there’s no Silver Star, no Bronze Star, no Purple Heart and no Combat Action Ribbon in his records like there is on his rack. Also no Navy parachutist wings. Here’s his assignments;<\/p>\n

He earned service medals for Vietnam. And he did attend Field Medical Services School at Camp Pendelton, so that might justify membership in the MCL. That’s up to them I suppose;<\/p>\n

Like so many, his service was good enough and exemplary as it stood, but then he didn’t think so. Funny how a little thing like pinning a “V” on the wrong medal can get the phonies busted for a load of other shit.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
