And they&#8217;re useful for more than law enforcement or medicine.<\/p>\n<p>Modern DNA analysis was used recently to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.armytimes.com\/news\/2012\/08\/ap-missing-soldier-remains-found-vietnam-083012\/\">identify the remains of SFC William T. Brown of La Habra, California<\/a>,SFC Donald M. Shue of Kannapolis, NC, and\u00a0SFC Gunther H. Wald, of Palisades Park, NJ.\u00a0 The three US soldiers disappeared after an ambush in South Vietnam in 1969 &#8211; 43 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>All three were reported to have been injured\/wounded at the time. However, they could not be extracted during the ambush.\u00a0 A combination of enemy presence and weather precluded US forces from searching the site for 8 days after their disappearance.\u00a0 When US forces returned they located no bodies.<\/p>\n<p>In any case: the MIA list from Vietnam is now <del><\/del>three names shorter. That&#8217;s a good thing.<\/p>\n<p>Rest in peace, my elder brothers-in-arms.\u00a0 Rest in peace.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Update<\/strong>:\u00a0 the <em>Army Times<\/em> article omitted the fact that remains of all three MIA soldiers have been recovered &#8211; not only SFC Brown&#8217;s &#8211; as well as the names of the other two MIAs.\u00a0 These other individuals were SFC Donald M. Shue of Kannapolis, NC, and\u00a0SFC Gunther H.
