The Associated Press<\/a> reports that the Taliban punctuated the visit of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Martin Dempsey, to Afghanistan so he could discuss with the Afghan government the “insider attacks” with a rocket at Bagram Air Base outside of Kabul. The rocket did some damage to General Dempsey’s plane, but apparently he wasn’t near the aircraft when it was hit.<\/p>\n

Two maintenance workers were injured slightly by shrapnel from the two rockets that were fired into Bagram Air Field outside Kabul on Monday night, coalition spokesman Jamie Graybeal said.<\/p>\n

Dempsey “was nowhere near” the plane when the rockets hit near where the aircraft was parked, Graybeal said.<\/p>\n

The spokesman added that Dempsey had finished his mission in Afghanistan and had left by Tuesday morning, though it was unclear what plane he flew out on or how badly the targeted plane was damaged.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I’m sure the troops are doing the best they can over there with what they’ve got, but I think the “with what they’ve got” part is seriously hindering them. The focus, at this point, seems to be the withdrawal on it’s time table. The Afghans are trying to recruit any warm bodies they can find to get their own forces stood up before we leave and this is a danger to their own forces as well as ours. <\/p>\n

That brief surge has collapsed on itself. 10,000 left last year with another 40,000 scheduled to leave by the end of this year. New Zealand announced<\/a> that their troops will leave early. France says <\/a>their troops will be out by the end of the year.<\/p>\n

Somehow, it’s difficult to believe NATO when they insist that the Taliban won’t return to rule<\/a> Afghanistan in our wake. And that’s the reason that most Afghans didn’t buy into our war against the Taliban in the first place, because of our long history of half-ass war against oppression.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
