Several months ago we posted a video of Mr. Don Shipley<\/a>, the real SEAL who also spends his time busting phonies. In that video, he mentioned two New Jersey men who were ripping off people taking up collections for the victims of 9-11. One of them, 66-year-old Mark Niemczyk of Tinton Falls, was pretending to be a SEAL. <\/p>\n

New Jersey has sued two state residents, claiming they collected tens of thousands of dollars in donations for a bogus 9\/11 charity.<\/p>\n

In the lawsuit filed Monday in Superior Court, the Attorney General’s Office claims 66-year-old Mark Niemczyk of Tinton Falls and 40-year-old Thomas Scalgione of Manahawkin used the money they raised for their own personal gain. It also alleges that the pair \u2014 who both have criminal records \u2014 failed to register the charity as required by state law.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

A review of financial records revealed that donated funds were commingled in Niemczyk\u2019s personal bank account, according to authorities. None of the organizations that the defendants allegedly claimed to have sent donations to had any records or memory of receiving donations from the defendants, authorities said.<\/p>\n

The defendants allegedly raised tens of thousands of dollars through public donations and the case has been referred for possible criminal prosecution in addition to the filed civil complaint.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
