Earlier this week, the Obama Administration attempted to mollify the Karzai government with an announcement that it would only authorize limited drone strikes in Afghan neighborhoods<\/a> in the wake of an airstrike in support of troops raiding a Taliban target’s home which supposedly killed 18 civilians.<\/p>\n

Well, according to the Associated Press<\/a>, despite the fact that they had agreed to the limited airstrikes, the Karzai government is now demanding an end to drone strikes targeting homes;<\/p>\n

Afghan President Hamid Karzai took a defiant stand on Tuesday against NATO on airstrikes, saying the military coalition can no longer fire on homes from aircraft in any circumstance – even in defense of Afghan and foreign forces.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

My response would be an immediate withdrawal of all US forces in Afghanistan along with confiscating every piece of equipment that was made in the US right down to their first aid pouches. The response from the Taliban will be the immediate occupation of every home they need to avoid drone strikes. <\/p>\n

“Even when they are under attack, they cannot use an airplane to bomb Afghan homes – even when they are under attack,” he said to underscore his point.<\/p>\n

Karzai said that at a meeting after the incident in Logar province, he asked U.S. Marine Gen. John Allen, the top commander of U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan: “Do you do this in the United States? There is police action every day in the United States. … They don’t call in airplanes to bomb the place.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Nice try, Hamid. Normally, Americans aren’t setting off bombs in our public market spaces and throwing acid on our school girls, either. Nor do we attack and kidnap our police or bomb barracks. <\/p>\n

Yeah, that should be the last straw. Karzai won’t let us apply our advantages to the battlefield, so we ought to remove all the advantages he has to remain in power in Afghanistan and come home. The we can just stand off and launch drones all day and night on the resulting Taliban government. And, oh, shoot down Karzai when he attempts to flee the morass he’s created.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
