Everyone here\u2019s doubtless heard about the \u201cGot Your Six\u201d campaign out of Hollywood.\u00a0 NBC \u2013 yeah, that NBC, the same one that brings us MSNBC \u2013 is a sponsor.<\/p>\n
NBC also now is part owner of the Weather Channel.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t know that, but it\u2019s also not surprising.\u00a0 Media companies get bought and sold by other media companies all the time, and NBC is one of the \u201cbig dogs\u201d in the industry.<\/p>\n
Well, it looks like NBC might have been caught being just a tad hypocritical.\u00a0 (What a surprise.)\u00a0 Seems that a former Weather Channel host, Nicole Mitchell, has brought a lawsuit against Mitchell’s allegations on the surface appear fairly damning, assuming they’re accurate.\u00a0 There appears to be an escalating\u00a0 pattern of discriminatory behavior, starting after NBC acquired ownership interest in the Weather Channel, culminating in a firing.\u00a0 And all of it\u00a0 clearly seems to be be based largely if not entirely on Mitchell’s military reserve status.<\/p>\n But at this point, they\u2019re just allegations.\u00a0 They aren\u2019t yet proven.<\/p>\n The Weather Channel, predictably, has declined to comment on the pending lawsuit other than to say that they don’t discriminate, they follow the law, and that Mitchell’s allegations are “inaccurate” – without providing any specifics, of course.\u00a0\u00a0 Figures.\u00a0 But unlike our “Best Friend” Timmy Poe<\/a>, at least they seem to know when to keep their mouths shut to avoid eating more foot.<\/p>\n NBC and the Weather Channel probably should hope Mitchell can\u2019t prove her allegations.\u00a0 There\u2019s this little thing called the Uniformed Services Employment\/Reemployment Rights Act on the books.\u00a0 Has been since 1994.<\/p>\n It\u2019s a Federal law.\u00a0 And it says, very clearly, “You can\u2019t do that. ”<\/p>\n \u201cGot your six\u201d, eh?\u00a0 Yeah, NBC \u2013 looks like you \u201cgot her six\u201d, alright.\u00a0 But I don\u2019t think what you seem to have done here is exactly what the term means.<\/p>\n If Mitchell prevails in court, well, here\u2019s hoping she returns the favor and \u201cgets NBC\u2019s seven\u201d.\u00a0 As in seven figures or more.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"NBC<\/del> her former emloyers.\u00a0 She\u2019s an officer in the USAF Reserve and a member of the USAFR’s\u00a0 \u201cHurricane Hunters\u201d.\u00a0 And she alleges that NBC fired her as a Weather Channel host because of her military status<\/a>.<\/p>\n
