Here’s another reason to take no prisoners in the war against terror. Fox News<\/a> is reporting that the US is secretly releasing Taliban detainees in Afghanistan in order to stroke the Taliban at the negotiating table;<\/p>\n

Under the risky program, the hardened fighters must promise to give up violence and are threatened with further punishment, but there is nothing to stop them resuming attacks against Afghan and American troops.<\/p>\n

“Everyone agrees they are guilty of what they have done and should remain in detention. Everyone agrees that these are bad guys. But the benefits outweigh the risks,” a US official told the Post.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Washington Post<\/a> says;<\/p>\n

The releases have come amid broader efforts to end the decade-long war through negotiation, which is a central feature of the Obama administration\u2019s strategy for leaving Afghanistan. Those efforts, however, have yielded little to no progress in recent years. In part, they have been stymied by the unwillingness of the United States to release five prisoners from Guantanamo Bay \u2014 a gesture that insurgent leaders have said they see as a precondition for peace talks.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Yeah, that’s brilliant. I’m sure they’ll keep their word to not raise their arms because they’re so trustworthy.<\/p>\n

You’d think that the US would hold off releasing our own prisoners until the Taliban releases Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl or Warren Weinstein<\/a>, don’t you think?
