I chatted with Hope Hodge from Human Events<\/a> yesterday about the disclosure this weekend that the Obama Administration is delegating authority for night raids to the Afghan government;<\/p>\n

Jonn Lilyea, founder of the conservative site and former Desert Storm-era infantry platoon sergeant, said he worried for the safety of troops by involving Afghan courts, on account of well-documented corruption within the Afghan government and the prospect of information leaks to the enemy.<\/p>\n

\u201cGiven the fact that the Afghan government leaks like a sieve to the Taliban, I\u2019m sure that the productivity and usefulness of these raids can only increase (that\u2019s sarcasm, if you didn\u2019t recognize it),\u201d he wrote. \u201cWe can also expect that every night raid will be an ambush.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lilyea told Human Events that he had friends and former leaders stationed in Afghanistan, and his interest in the issue was personal.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll it takes is one law clerk and those raids become ambushes against our forces,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

With top U.S. officials publishing clear timelines for a phased Afghanistan departure, Lilyea said it made sense for Afghan forces to build alliances with the Taliban.<\/p>\n

\u201c(Afghan troops are) not going to be loyal to us as much as they\u2019re going to be loyal to the Taliban, because they\u2019re going to be there longer,\u201d he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I also told Hope that we should be pulling the troops out at a faster rate because this administration isn’t committed to the victory that would effectively end the war. The Obama Administration has proven that the only reason that we’re still in Afghanistan is so Obama can call himself a “war president” in the upcoming election and appear committed to the strategy there to fool the squishy independents.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
