{"id":28921,"date":"2012-02-29T09:56:17","date_gmt":"2012-02-29T13:56:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=28921"},"modified":"2012-02-29T10:35:16","modified_gmt":"2012-02-29T14:35:16","slug":"specops-doing-more-with-less","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=28921","title":{"rendered":"SpecOps doing more with less"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Kristina Wong writes in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2012\/feb\/28\/special-operations-to-do-more-with-less\/\">Washington Times<\/a> that despite having their budget slashed, like the rest of the military, the Obama Administration continues to lean on the successes of Special Operations forces in the global war on terrorism.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The command\u2019s fiscal 2013 budget request is $10.4 billion &#8211; essentially the same as its current budget. In 2011, its budget was $12.1 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Defense Secretary Leon E. Panetta said last month that as U.S. troops gradually withdraw from the war in Afghanistan, there will be \u201cmore opportunities for special operations forces to assist and advise our partners in other regions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is some concern that the SOF community is not going to be robust enough to maintain these high-demand operations indefinitely,\u201d said retired Lt. Gen. David Barno, a former Army Ranger and former commander of U.S. and coalition forces in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n<p>In a Feb. 14 Foreign Policy article titled \u201cSOF Power,\u201d Gen. Barno said the Obama administration has not adequately addressed important questions about the impact on the culture of special operations forces.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Not exactly surprising since this Administration seems to think that everything remains constant and that their policies have no effect on outcomes. But what can we expect, really, when this is a &#8220;Bite Me&#8221; Biden policy.
