{"id":27739,"date":"2011-12-01T02:42:21","date_gmt":"2011-12-01T06:42:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=27739"},"modified":"2011-12-01T02:42:21","modified_gmt":"2011-12-01T06:42:21","slug":"coburn-and-closing-base-schools","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=27739","title":{"rendered":"Coburn and Closing Base Schools"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/2011\/11\/30\/coburn-claims-senate-blocking-proposal-to-cut-51k-cost-per-student-on-military\/\">Fox News<\/a>,\u00a0\u00a0Sen.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/topics\/politics\/tom-coburn.htm#r_src=ramp\">Tom Coburn<\/a>, R-Okla. has a plan to close schools on military bases INSIDE the U.S. in an effort to save around $50,000 per student, per year.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Currently,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/topics\/politics\/the-pentagon.htm#r_src=ramp\">the Pentagon<\/a>\u00a0operates nearly 200 on-base schools around the world. Sixty-three of them are in the U.S. and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/topics\/puerto-rico.htm#r_src=ramp\">Puerto Rico<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to Coburn&#8217;s office, the Pentagon is spending an average of $51,000 per student per year to attend the U.S. schools on military bases. That figure is sure to rise as the Defense Department endeavors to repair the glut of schools that are in deteriorating conditions, though the military estimates the per-pupil cost is far lower than Coburn&#8217;s figures show.<\/p>\n<p>Coburn has proposed shutting down the U.S. schools, and sending students to nearby schools in the local communities to get their education.
