{"id":26369,"date":"2011-08-31T12:46:08","date_gmt":"2011-08-31T16:46:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=26369"},"modified":"2011-08-31T12:46:08","modified_gmt":"2011-08-31T16:46:08","slug":"sometimes-you-get-the-bear","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=26369","title":{"rendered":"Sometimes You Get the Bear&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.spokesman.com\/stories\/2011\/aug\/24\/not-guilty-plea-entered-in-federal-case-of-shot\/\" target=\"_blank\">A Boundary County man pleaded not guilty Tuesday to unlawfully killing a female grizzly bear in his yard.<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Supporters said that Hill, a father of six, acted responsibly in shooting the female grizzly on May 8, which appeared with two cubs in the yard of his home near Porthill, Idaho, while his children were playing\u00a0outside.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt seems unjust to me that someone would be charged when they were protecting their family,\u201d state Sen. Shawn Keough, R-Sandpoint, said after the hearing. \u201cI\u2019m at a loss to understand why the U.S. government is pursuing this in the manner they\u00a0are.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>State and local officials declined to file charges, but Uncle Sam did.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Meanwhile, Boundary County commissioners sent letters to Idaho\u2019s congressional delegation and state legislators, asking for support for Hill. They also issued a news release, saying that Idaho Fish and Game officials had recommended against filing charges in the case, and that local U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service officials had\u00a0concurred.<\/p>\n<p>Chip Corsi, Idaho Fish and Game\u2019s regional manager, declined to comment on his agency\u2019s stance on charges, but said: \u201cHe had three grizzly bears in close proximity to his kids, family and livestock.
