King; more than 40 Americans join Al-Shabab"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Representative Peter King claims that his Homeland Security Committee has discovered that more than 40 Americans, and 20 Canadians, have joined the Somalian terrorist group Al-Shabab according to the <a href=\"http:\/\/ap.stripes.com\/dynamic\/stories\/U\/US_TERROR_HEARINGS?SITE=DCSAS&#038;SECTION=HOME&#038;TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&#038;CTIME=2011-07-27-03-08-19\">Associated Press<\/a>;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In his prepared opening remarks, obtained by The Associated Press, King said al-Shabab is &#8220;engaged in an ongoing, successful effort to recruit and radicalize dozens of Muslim-American jihadis, who pose a direct threat to the U.S.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>King said al-Shabab is not just a Somali problem &#8211; the organization has a large cadre of American jihadis and ties to al-Qaida, particularly the terror group&#8217;s Yemen branch.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We must face the reality that al-Shabab is a growing threat to our homeland,&#8221; King said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>That&#8217;s about 1 out of a thousand Somalians living in this country who have trained and fought with al-Shabab.
