{"id":25537,"date":"2011-07-01T09:51:25","date_gmt":"2011-07-01T13:51:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=25537"},"modified":"2011-07-01T09:58:52","modified_gmt":"2011-07-01T13:58:52","slug":"the-mideast-arms-race","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=25537","title":{"rendered":"The Mideast arms race"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Old Trooper sent us this link from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/world\/2011\/jun\/29\/saudi-build-nuclear-weapons-iran\">The Guardian<\/a> in which the Saudis announce that if Iran builds nuclear weapons, they&#8217;ll do the same;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Prince Turki al-Faisal, a former Saudi intelligence chief and ambassador to Washington, warned senior Nato military officials that the existence of such a device &#8220;would compel Saudi Arabia \u2026 to pursue policies which could lead to untold and possibly dramatic consequences&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>He did not state explicitly what these policies would be, but a senior official in Riyadh who is close to the prince said yesterday his message was clear.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We cannot live in a situation where Iran has nuclear weapons and we don&#8217;t. It&#8217;s as simple as that,&#8221; the official said. &#8220;If Iran develops a nuclear weapon, that will be unacceptable to us and we will have to follow suit.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Of course there will be no deterrence of Mutual Assured Destruction like we had during the Cold War. Two tribes of goat ropers still following a code born in the dark ages each with their itchy finger on the button &#8211; one steeped in the belief that their savior is just a man-inspired disaster away &#8211; well, that&#8217;s just a recipe for a nuclear war in the region.
