Instead of actually doing something for working Americans by allowing oil companies to process our own energy reserves, the Democrat leadership has taken to mocking protesters who have real concerns about our near future. Politico<\/a> reports;<\/p>\n

[Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi] went on to refer to the protesters, who continued to chant sporadically, as \u201chandmaidens of Big Oil.\u201d Arguing that increased offshore drilling would reduce gas prices by only a couple of pennies a decade from now, she referred to the demonstrators as the \u201c2-cents-in-10-years-crowd.\u201d<\/p>\n

Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer swiped at the demonstrators, too, saying that \u201csophomoric chanting\u201d won\u2019t solve the energy crisis and that \u201call thinking Americans know\u201d \u2014 stressing the word “thinking” and looking at the crowd \u2014 that America doesn\u2019t have a quarter of the word\u2019s fossil fuels yet uses a quarter of the world\u2019s energy.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Just for argument’s sake, let’s say Pelosi and Hoyer are right, and let’s say that commencing operations today would only result in a few cents savings on a gallon of gas in ten years (they aren’t right, and the savings would be much more). Don’t the American people have the right to those few pennies? Who is Pelosi and Hoyer to stand in the way of how we spend our money? Those resources are ostensibly the property of the American people, not property of the Democrat Party.<\/p>\n

If Bill Clinton hadn’t vetoed Congressional legislation ten years ago to prevent drilling, by their own timeline, that oil would have made it to market this year (using the Democrats’ timeline), and we could’ve avoided this gas price increase.<\/p>\n

I think it’s terribly crass of the Democrat leadership to openly mock the will of the voters. Of course, both Pelosi and Hoyer are reasonably secure in their positions politically so they can afford cheap shots at their constituency.
