But there have been others who could use that phrase with no small honor.<\/p>\n<p>I was reminded of that today when I stumbled across the name below. I remember reading about him years ago. Reckon maybe others here might not have heard of him?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Desmond_Doss\" target=\"_blank\">Meet Desmond Doss.<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Desmond T. Doss<\/strong> (February 7, 1919\u2013March 23, 2006) was the first <a title=\"Conscientious objector\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Conscientious_objector\">conscientious objector<\/a> to receive the <a title=\"Medal of Honor\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Medal_of_Honor\">Medal of Honor<\/a> and one of only three so honored (the others are <a title=\"Thomas W. Bennett (conscientious objector)\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Thomas_W._Bennett_%28conscientious_objector%29\">Thomas W. Bennett<\/a> and <a title=\"Joseph G. LaPointe, Jr.\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Joseph_G._LaPointe,_Jr.\">Joseph G. LaPointe, Jr.<\/a>). He was a <a title=\"Corporal\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Corporal\">Corporal<\/a> (<a title=\"Private First Class\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Private_First_Class\">Private First Class<\/a> at the time of his Medal of Honor heroics) in the <a title=\"United States Army\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_States_Army\">U.S. Army<\/a> assigned to the Medical Detachment, 307th Infantry, <a title=\"77th Infantry Division (United States)\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/77th_Infantry_Division_%28United_States%29\">77th Infantry Division<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Desmond Doss refused to kill, or carry a weapon into combat, because of his personal beliefs as a <a title=\"Seventh-day Adventist Church\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Seventh-day_Adventist_Church\">Seventh-day Adventist<\/a>.
