{"id":22464,"date":"2011-03-02T17:30:17","date_gmt":"2011-03-02T21:30:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=22464"},"modified":"2011-03-02T17:30:17","modified_gmt":"2011-03-02T21:30:17","slug":"us-supports-icc-for-the-first-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=22464","title":{"rendered":"US supports ICC for the first time"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Obama Administration has signaled it&#8217;s support for the war crimes court, formally called the International Criminal Court, for the first time since President Clinton signed the agreement in 2000 according to the <a href=\"http:\/\/ap.stripes.com\/dynamic\/stories\/U\/UN_UN_LIBYA_INTERNATIONAL_COURT?SITE=DCSAS&#038;SECTION=HOME&#038;TEMPLATE=DEFAULT\">Associated Press<\/a>. President Bush denounced the court because of the near-certainty that it would be used as a political weapon.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>But the United States insisted on including a provision in the resolution to protect Americans from investigation or prosecution by the International Criminal Court, known as the ICC. It requires that any citizen of a country that hasn&#8217;t joined the ICC be investigated or prosecuted in his home country &#8211; not by the ICC &#8211; for any alleged actions stemming from operations in Libya authorized by the Security Council.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Obama hopes that it will only affect the current Libya problem, but I can see how even including this provision, it will still be used against the US like everything else we try to do in United Nations.
