George Chip, an assistant principal at Alexander High School in Douglasville, GA, like most of us, felt a little left behind and volunteered to go back on duty 9 years after he left the Georgia National Guard (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ajc.com\/news\/douglasville-principal-volunteers-for-770024.html\">Atlanta Journal Constitution<\/a>);<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI don\u2019t feel like a hero, and I was a little embarrassed,\u201d Chip says. \u201cMy father was a hero, fought in three wars in the Marine Corps. He was literally gone for two years at a lick, in very dire conditions. He was part of the greatest generation, fought in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. I am just a soldier doing my duty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chip has been in the military for 28 years, joining when he was a teacher in Florida, training on helicopters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen I saw this war on TV, and I had been out of the National Guard since 2001. I got to thinking, \u2018How are we going to help these people?\u2019\u201d <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Yeah, there are many more stories like this than there are of the people we usually feature here.
