{"id":20287,"date":"2010-08-27T17:03:31","date_gmt":"2010-08-27T21:03:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=20287"},"modified":"2010-08-27T17:08:34","modified_gmt":"2010-08-27T21:08:34","slug":"dod-decides-on-voting-waivers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=20287","title":{"rendered":"DoD decides on voting waivers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ap.stripes.com\/dynamic\/stories\/U\/US_MILITARY_VOTING_STATE_PRIMARIES?SITE=DCSAS&#038;SECTION=HOME&#038;TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&#038;CTIME=2010-08-27-10-52-26\">Associated Press<\/a> reports that the Defense Department has decided which States will and which won&#8217;t get waivers for the new Military and Overseas Voter Act (MOVE Act) that most affects the vote count of service members serving overseas;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Not getting the waiver calls into question how the affected states &#8211; Wisconsin, Hawaii, Alaska and Colorado &#8211; will comply with deadlines for counting all votes cast for the Nov. 2 election by members of the military and other Americans living overseas.<\/p>\n<p>The Defense Department granted Delaware, New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Washington the waivers.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It&#8217;s funny, but Vermont and Minnesota moved their primaries to be in compliance with the mandated 45-day turnaround time for mailed absentee ballots. The others just thought it&#8217;d be easier to disenfranchise their military voters, I suppose. <\/p>\n<p>As far as I&#8217;m concerned, there&#8217;s no legitimate excuse for a waiver. Those States all have the same number of days on their calender as the States in compliance with the MOVE Act.
