{"id":19819,"date":"2010-07-22T08:41:13","date_gmt":"2010-07-22T12:41:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=19819"},"modified":"2010-07-22T08:41:13","modified_gmt":"2010-07-22T12:41:13","slug":"maldef-and-aclu-sue-ne-town","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=19819","title":{"rendered":"MALDEF and ACLU sue NE town"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2010\/jul\/21\/nebraska-town-hit-with-2-lawsuits\/\">Washington Times<\/a> this morning, Rachel Duke writes about a lawsuit brought by Mexican American Legal Defense &#038; Educational Fund (MALDEF) and the American Civil Liberties Union against a Nebraska town which voted to make illegal the hiring and renting homes to illegal immigrants.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The lawsuits claim Fremont&#8217;s ordinance is at odds with the constitutional mandate imposing a uniform federal immigration-enforcement system. They also accuse the ordinance of violating the federal Fair Housing Act and the equal protection and due process clauses of the U.S. Constitution.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Divisive ordinances like these tear communities apart,&#8221; said Jennifer Chang Newell, staff attorney with the ACLU Immigrants&#8217; Rights Project. &#8220;It&#8217;s time to stop promoting discriminatory policies like these so that we can come together to find a national approach to immigration.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Would someone tell me where I can find a copy of &#8220;a uniform federal immigration-enforcement system&#8221;. And tell me what is the harm in profiling when most of the law breakers are of a certain persuasion?<\/p>\n<p>Lemme think about this for a second. It seems to me that it takes like 20 seconds to fish your immigration card or your driver license from your wallet to prove you are in this country legally. It takes a quarter of a second to decide not to go to that one small town in Nebraska in the first place, if you&#8217;re illegal. You can even go to a more vibrant and welcoming sactuary city instead.
