{"id":19535,"date":"2010-06-24T11:55:03","date_gmt":"2010-06-24T15:55:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valorguardians.com\/blog\/?p=19535"},"modified":"2010-06-24T11:55:58","modified_gmt":"2010-06-24T15:55:58","slug":"wanat-commanders-reprimands-overturned","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.azuse.cloud\/?p=19535","title":{"rendered":"Wanat commanders reprimands overturned"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jerry920 sends us a link from <a href=\"http:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/article\/army-overturns-reprimands-silver-star-winner-battle-wanat\/story?id=10997089\">ABC News <\/a>which report that the letters of reprimand for three officers involved in the battle at Wanat, Afghanistan have been overturned;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Letters of reprimand are seen as career-enders in the military because recipients are passed up for promotion.<\/p>\n<p>Campbell originally had determined that the officers should receive the punishments for what he saw as dereliction of duty in failing to prepare adequate defenses at a base that that had been established only days prior to the attack.<\/p>\n<p>But he reversed himself after the officers had an opportunity to appeal the decision and they presented their case.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Uncle Jimbo and I have tipped glasses with some of the Wanat heroes and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blackfive.net\/main\/2010\/06\/the-battle-of-wanat-was-a-hard-fought-victory.html\">I always defer to him for expert analysis<\/a> of the battle and the ensuing discussion afterwards.<\/p>\n<p>Blivethead Virginia senator Jim Webb released this statement in regards to the decision, according to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.armytimes.com\/news\/2010\/06\/army_wanat_report_062310w\/\">Army Times<\/a>;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I find it deeply troubling that the Army has exonerated these officers and in the process rejected the findings of the independent review. This development raises concerns regarding the principle of command accountability in the Army.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>There&#8217;s that disconnect again.
