Jeff Schogol<\/strong><\/p>\n Marines often boast that their beloved Corps was \u201cborn in a bar,\u201d specifically, that it was born at Tun Tavern in Philadelphia, back when the very first would-be Marines decided to enlist on Nov. 10, 1775.<\/p>\n The original building that has long been celebrated as the birthplace of the United States Marine Corps was demolished in 1781, but soon a new Tun Tavern will open in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, just in time for the Corps\u2019 250th anniversary.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re recreating history,\u201d Dahm told Task & Purpose on Monday. \u201cIt\u2019s about patriotism. It\u2019s about the Marines that we lost.\u201d<\/p>\n The restaurant, which is undergoing preliminary renovations, will have a \u201csoft opening\u201d on Friday and then its \u201cTun Tavern\u201d sign will be unveiled on Nov. 10, Dahm said.<\/p>\n \u201cMost importantly, we\u2019re just trying to get it open for the Marine Corps birthday,\u201d Dahm said. \u201cIt\u2019s themed Marine inside for now.\u201d<\/p>\n The new Tun Tavern will be a block away from the original site.
