Two sheriffs, other law enforcement arrested after ‘monumental betrayal of public trust’<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nMultiple law enforcement officers have been indicted in a yearlong conspiracy to traffic drugs across the state in exchange for money.<\/p>\n

The FBI, including the head of the Jackson branch, joined the United States Attorney’s Northern District of Mississippi in Oxford Thursday afternoon.<\/p>\n

U.S. Attorney Clay Joiner said 20 people were indicted for taking bribes and aiding and abetting drug trafficking and associated crimes.<\/p>\n

“They betrayed the trust that the public placed in them. Disgraced the badge and undermined the hard work across this state and across the region,” said FBI Deputy Director Andrew Bailey. “We will not tolerate public corruption amongst America’s criminal justice system.”<\/p>\n

Joiner said the law enforcement officers and their accomplices provided safe passage of drug transport through the Delta in exchange for bribe money. In two instances, drugs were transported to Memphis and to Miami.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
