Man arrested in Woodburn on drug charges attempts to flee officers, feared deportation<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nA 28-year-old man was arrested Oct. 1 after federal agents, Salem Police and Woodburn Police officers found drugs in his Woodburn hotel room.<\/p>\n

Police executing a search warrant of the hotel room found several weight scales, empty plastic baggies and aluminum foil, according to court documents.<\/p>\n

They also seized a plastic bag with a substance believed to be cocaine, two plastic bags believed to contain fentanyl and small pieces of aluminum foil believed to contain methamphetamine, according to documents.<\/p>\n

The man was arrested and federal agents began driving him to the Yamhill County Jail, which has an agreement with the federal government to house inmates awaiting trial when the Sheridan prison is at capacity.<\/p>\n

While on the way to the jail, the driver made a wrong turn and attempted to turn the vehicle around, according to court documents. The man, who was handcuffed, began attempting to escape the backseat of the vehicle when this happened and was able to exit, according to court documents.<\/p>\n

The agents chased after the man, who began fighting them, kicking one in the face multiple times and attempting to bite the other, according to court documents.<\/p>\n

Additional officers arrived, threatened to use a taser and regained custody of the man.<\/p>\n

The man told officers he tried to escape because he thought he was being deported and that he was fighting to get away, according to court documents. The man is a legal citizen of Mexico.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
