While at this point (Wednesday) Charlie Kirk’s assassination is dominating breaking news and the classic\u00a0 mainstream media is dominated by a purported Trump birthday greeting over 20 years old, there is another story in Charlotte, NC.<\/p>\n
The video, released by the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS), shows Iryna Zarutska, a Ukranian refugee, get on the light rail and sit in front of 34-year-old suspect Decarlos Brown Jr. for several minutes before the fatal incident.<\/p>\n
In the video, the suspect is seen looking restless and making faces while sitting behind Zarutska who is seen looking down at her cellphone. After a few minutes, Brown Jr. is seen standing over Zarutska before he allegedly stabs her in the neck from behind with a folding knife.<\/p>\n
CMPD said in a press release that Zarutska was pronounced dead at the scene and Brown Jr. was taken to the hospital for treatment due to a hand injury.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
Probably not much of a stretch since he used a folding knife to assume it didn’t have a locking blade and in the attack it folded back onto him.<\/p>\n
\nZarutska, 23, had moved to Charlotte from Ukraine and was murdered on Aug. 22, while riding the city’s LYNX Blue Line. Over the weekend, the Charlotte Area Transit System released a video of her killing.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
Leave a war zone, just to get killed in another. There’s a lot of high-level attention on it now – President Trump calling for the death penalty, Pam Bondi says the FBI will be involved, even Transportation Secretary Sean Brown is talking of withholding federal funds if the city can’t keep riders safe.<\/p>\n
Much of it is being seen as awkward for Democrats – a young girl being stabbed to death by a career criminal? Some are making much of Decarlos’ criminal history (seems his rap sheet is 14 arrests long, and he was sentenced to 6 years for armed robbery back in 2015. He served 5.) He was arrested a month before the killing but released by Judge Teresa Stokes, who is drawing intense on-line criticism for allowing his bail release. Quite a few folks claim he is mentally ill… doesn’t excuse a murder. Doesn’t remove society’s obligation to its citizens to protect them from such criminals, either.<\/p>\n
As some have pointed out, though, his most recent offense was for misusing the 9-1-1 system and the violent robbery that sent him up was 10 years ago. Then there are those saying he should have been kept in due to his record regardless. Newsweek whined that it wouldn’t have been fair to him to proactively jail him –\u00a0 Iryna Zarutska might wonder why they are worried about HIS rights, rather than HERS.<\/p>\n
Thankfully, GoFundMe has taken down the fundraising appeals for Brown (they won’t fund defenses for people accused of violent crime.) I have to wonder what kind of person would want<\/em> to fund someone who committed such a crime.<\/p>\n
