Topeka man, 43, arrested after police chase shuts down I-70 on Friday evening<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nTOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – A man was behind bars Tuesday afternoon in the Shawnee County Jail after his arrest following a police chase Friday afternoon in west Topeka, officials said.<\/p>\n

The arrested man was identified as Timothy Phillips, 43, Topeka.<\/p>\n

Police responded around 6 p.m. Friday to a report of gunfire in the 2000 block of S.W. Mission Avenue, officials said.<\/p>\n

A person of interest in the incident fled from police and initiated a brief vehicle pursuit on Interstate 70, officials said.<\/p>\n

The pursuit resulted in I-70 between MacVicar Avenue and 1st Street being shut down for more than 15 minutes as the suspect vehicle was stopped, according to WIBW reports from the scene.<\/p>\n

Police later arrested Phillips in connection with the incident, officials said.<\/p>\n

Phillips was booked at 2:55 a.m. Saturday into the Shawnee County Jail in connection with criminal possession of a weapon; possession of a controlled substance; possession of drug paraphernalia; aggravated assault; criminal discharge of a firearm; criminal damage to property; fleeing or attempting to elude a law enforcement officer; and reckless driving.<\/p>\n

Phillips was being held on a $75,000 bond Tuesday afternoon in the Shawnee County Jail.<\/p>\n

He also was being held on a municipal court warrant with a $3,975 bond, officials said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
