One dead, one injured in overnight shooting, police say<\/strong><\/p>\n

DYERSBURG, Tenn. – A shooting overnight Tuesday left one man dead and another injured, the Dyersburg Police Department said.<\/p>\n

Dyersburg Police said officers were sent to Ab’s Vape and Tobacco Shop at 305 S. Main Street just before 11:00 Tuesday night. Officers said they found 25-year-old Nireonte Mayberry dead at the scene.<\/p>\n

Police said 20-year-old Jaylon Brown was not at the scene when officers got there, but was found later while trying to get medical attention for a gunshot wound; he was airlifted to Regional One in Memphis for treatment.<\/p>\n

Dyersburg PD said the case was still being investigated, but their early information suggests that this was a case of self-defense.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Miami-Dade officer seeks “stand your ground” defense in deadly UPS shootout<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nSix years after a deadly shootout on Miramar Parkway, new evidence and emotional testimony are emerging in court as Miami-Dade Police Officer Jos\u00e9 Mateo seeks to use Florida’s “stand your ground” law as a defense against a manslaughter charge.<\/p>\n

The hearing, now in its third day, revisits the terrifying events that unfolded when two armed jewelry store robbers hijacked a UPS truck and led police on a 25-mile chase through rush hour traffic. The pursuit ended in a hail of gunfire that killed UPS driver Frank Ordo\u00f1ez and innocent bystander Richard Cutshaw, who was caught in traffic ahead of the truck.<\/p>\n

On the witness stand, school psychologist Felicia Barrera recounted the chaos. “When I saw people running toward me, it sounded like fireworks,” she said. “I saw fire coming out of the UPS truck.”<\/p>\n

Ordo\u00f1ez’s mother, speaking in Spanish, said she continues to suffer and has waited years for justice. Liliana Sardi, who was grazed in the head by a bullet during the initial robbery in Coral Gables, also testified. “I said, ‘I’m bleeding and need something for my head,'” she recalled.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors argue that “stand your ground” does not apply in this case, pointing out that the two victims were not aggressors and that police fired more than 200 rounds into a truck with a hostage inside, surrounded by helpless drivers.<\/p>\n

Joe Merino, Ordo\u00f1ez’s stepfather, reflected on the tragedy: “You wonder what was going through his head during those 25 miles.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
