Trump moves US subs after ex-Russian leader\u2019s \u2018inflammatory\u2019 remarks<\/h3>\n

In a warning to Russia, President Donald Trump said Friday he\u2019s ordering the repositioning of two U.S. nuclear submarines \u201cbased on the highly provocative statements\u201d of the country\u2019s former president Dmitry Medvedev.<\/p>\n

Trump posted on his social media site that based on the \u201chighly provocative statements\u201d from Medvedev he had \u201cordered two Nuclear Submarines to be positioned in the appropriate regions, just in case these foolish and inflammatory statements are more than just that.\u201d<\/p>\n

The president added, \u201cWords are very important, and can often lead to unintended consequences, I hope this will not be one of those instances.\u201d<\/p>\n

It wasn\u2019t immediately clear what impact Trump\u2019s order would have on U.S. nuclear subs, which are routinely on patrol in the world\u2019s hotspots, but it comes at a delicate moment in the Trump administration\u2019s relations with Moscow.<\/p>\n

Trump has said that special envoy Steve Witkoff is heading to Russia to push Moscow to agree to a ceasefire in its war with Ukraine and has threatened new economic sanctions if progress is not made. He cut his 50-day deadline for action to 10 days, with that window set to expire next week.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Left unsaid was Putin’s attack dog stating in response to Trump’s accelerated sanction timeline, that \u201cEach new ultimatum is a threat and a step towards war, not between Russia and Ukraine, but with his own country.\u201d Medvedev is deputy chair of Russia\u2019s Security Council and well known for his aggressive, apocalyptic and frequent threats of nuclear escalation.<\/p>\n

The impact of Trump reshuffling the Boomers may not impress AP journalists, but that is not the intended audience. The Russian military has to respond by dispersing high-value strategic resources and increasing its threat level. These are not trivial exercises especially now when Moscow is deep in its Ukraine quagmire.
