Police ID burglary suspect shot, killed by homeowner in central Phoenix<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nPHOENIX (AZFamily) \u2014 Police in Phoenix say a burglary suspect is dead after being shot by a homeowner Sunday morning.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s since been identified as 25-year-old Kwame Hightower.<\/p>\n

Authorities say they were called to a home near 11th and Orangewood avenues, north of Glendale Avenue, on reports of a burglary around 7:45 a.m. The homeowner told dispatchers that a man was in his backyard trying to force his way into the house.<\/p>\n

Before officers arrived, the homeowner told the 911 operator that he had shot the man.<\/p>\n

Police arrived and asked the family to come outside, which included small children. Officers secured the area, and paramedics pronounced Hightower dead at the scene.<\/p>\n

Video from the scene showed Phoenix police detectives working to piece together what led up to the shooting, but officers say the homeowner is cooperating with the investigation.<\/p>\n

No arrests were made. Once the investigation is complete, the case will be turned over to the Maricopa County Attorney\u2019s Office for review.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
