First-degree murder charges dropped after April shooting in Springfield. Here’s why<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nSPRINGFIELD \u2014 First-degree murder charges will not be filed against a Rochester man who was initially arrested for the crime after an April 1 shooting.<\/p>\n

Sangamon County State’s Attorney John Milhiser said no criminal charges will be filed for the shooting death of Jerald P. Fahey, 51, of Springfield, because Nicholas J. Kammueller, 46, of Rochester, was defending himself.<\/p>\n

The shooting happened after Fahey entered Kammueller’s vehicle, started beating him and threatened to kill him, Milhiser said, which took place near the drive thru area of the McDonald’s at 2100 N. Dirksen Parkway.<\/p>\n

Milhiser cited evidence including video surveillance.<\/p>\n

Officers arrested Kammueller at the time for first-degree murder, driving under the influence, carrying a concealed firearm while intoxicated, and aggravated discharge of a firearm.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Plano Murder Suspect Gunned Down By Police In Euless After Deadly Confrontation<\/strong><\/p>\n

A murder suspect wanted in connection with a woman\u2019s death in Plano was shot and killed by police officers in Euless on July 10, one day after the victim was discovered dead in an apartment near a popular shopping center.<\/p>\n

The deadly confrontation ended a brief manhunt that began when Plano police found the woman\u2019s body on July 9 and issued a murder warrant for the suspect. The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force assisted Plano and Euless police in the search for the suspect.<\/p>\n

Officers located the suspect\u2019s vehicle as it pulled into a Euless apartment complex in the 1200 block of Fuller Wiser Road, where the situation quickly escalated. The officers initiated a traffic stop utilizing emergency lights, and the suspect pulled over into a parking spot, according to Euless Police Department spokesperson Tyler Killman.<\/p>\n

When officers from both the Euless and Plano police departments attempted to make contact, the suspect immediately \u201cposed a threat to the officers,\u201d and gunfire was exchanged.
