Resident shoots intruder in home invasion, Jefferson County sheriff says<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nA homeowner stood his ground, shooting and injuring the suspect in a home invasion, Jefferson County Sheriff Mac McNeill said in a June 30 news release.<\/p>\n

Earlier that day, just before 5 a.m., dispatchers received a call from a residence near the Leon County line. The caller said someone had attempted to break in but was shot. When deputies arrived, they found someone with a gunshot wound on the ground near the front of the house.<\/p>\n

An investigation found that the homeowner, along with his wife and child, were asleep when they were woken by the suspect trying to break in through the front door. He got his gun, the release said.<\/p>\n

After telling him several times to leave, the suspect broke a window in the front door. That’s when the homeowner fired one round through the front door, striking the suspect. He fell to the ground and the homeowner got a first-aid kit while his wife called 911.<\/p>\n

The homeowner performed life saving measures until deputies and EMS arrived. The suspect \u2013 who was not immediately identified \u2013 was taken to a hospital, where he was reported to be in stable condition. The investigation is ongoing, according to the release.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Charleston shooting looks to have been self defense<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nCHARLESTON, W.Va. \u2014 What was originally believed to be a homicide investigation in Charleston is now considered a case of self defense.<\/p>\n

Charleston Police were called to a home in the 1500 block of Lewis Street in the Capital City Tuesday night for a report of shots fired. When they arrived the found Jaiden Weeks, 20, of Charleston with multiple gunshot wounds. Weeks was taken to a Charleston hospital where he later died.<\/p>\n

However, Charleston Police Chief of Detectives Tony Hazelett said evidence showed Weeks was the one who initiated the gunfire.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe started interviewing witnesses and we were advised that Mr. Weeks showed up to the 1500 block of Lewis Street to the front of a residence and started opening gunfire. An occupant of the residence returned gunfire fatally striking Mr. Weeks,\u201d Hazelett said.<\/p>\n

No charges have been filed in the case and police have turned over evidence in the shooting to the Kanawha County Prosecutor\u2019s Office for review.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
