Man shot during break-in, arrested for attempted murder after hours-long standoff<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nELKHORN CITY, Ky. (WYMT) – A Pike County man is facing multiple charges, including attempted murder, after a Monday night incident in Elkhorn City.<\/p>\n

Kentucky State Police arrested George Standifur, 44, after responding to a call about a person breaking into a home on W 5th Street.<\/p>\n

According to the arrest citation, KSP was contacted late Monday night with a homeowner saying they shot an intruder in the leg after he broke into their house.<\/p>\n

Upon arrival, troopers found Standifur in an alley behind the home.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe subject had the gun and refused to put the weapon down. The subject stated that he was going to kill us multiple times,\u201d Trooper Nicholas Taylor wrote in his citation.<\/p>\n

Troopers said that, after a few hours, the man eventually put the gun down, and troopers rushed him to get the firearm out of his reach, at which point Standifur reportedly began resisting arrest and \u201csmelled of alcohol.\u201d<\/p>\n

After speaking with the family in the home, troopers were told Standifur lived in a camper next door.<\/p>\n

A man in the home claims Standifur \u201ccame into his home uninvited, making threats to kill [the] family.\u201d<\/p>\n

The family told troopers that Standifur attempted to shoot the man in the head, but the gun did not fire. So, the man was able to get his gun and shoot at Standifur, shooting him in the leg.<\/p>\n

Standifur then tried to shoot his gun at a woman in the home, according to the citation, but it failed to fire again, and they were able to force him out of the home and call 911.<\/p>\n

Standifur is charged with attempted murder, wanton endangerment of a police officer, terroristic threatening, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, menacing, and alcohol intoxication in a public place.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
