Shootout erupts during alleged home burglary; suspect still at large<\/strong>
\nA couple was sleeping in their home early Saturday morning when the wife woke up the husband saying she heard something.<\/em><\/p>\n

\nSAN ANTONIO \u2014 An alleged shootout between a burglar and a homeowner broke out early Saturday morning, police say.<\/p>\n

Around 3:23 a.m. a husband and wife were sleeping in their home located in the 100 block of Evandale Drive. The wife then woke up the husband saying she heard something.<\/p>\n

The husband grabbed his handgun and went to investigate. That’s when he saw an unknown man “glancing at him from one of the rooms.”<\/p>\n

The husband, fearing for his safety, fired several gunshots at the suspect. Fleeing, the suspect jumped out the window and began shooting back from his own firearm, striking the house.<\/p>\n

No injuries were reported.<\/p>\n

The suspect as of Saturday morning has not been located.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Mail carrier who delivered for late Vietnam War vet adopts his dog<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nDENTON, Texas (WFAA) \u2013 Every single day, there are dogs inside the City of Denton Animal Shelter in Texas waiting for a human to take them home.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, a 70-pound pup named Floyd finally got his forever home.<\/p>\n

Mail carrier Ian Burke said knew he was meant to be Floyd\u2019s family.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m taking this guy home with me,\u201d Burke said.<\/p>\n

It was not the first time the two met at the shelter.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t take it lightly, you know. Like this is just some random dog that I\u2019m adopting,\u201d he said. \u201cThis is a dog that was loved and cherished by a former customer of mine.\u201d<\/p>\n

Burke met Floyd three years ago while delivering mail to Floyd\u2019s then owner, a wheelchair-bound Vietnam vet on his daily route.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe got out the door and charged at me, a little puppy,\u201d Burke said.<\/p>\n

Burke said he looked forward to seeing Floyd and his owner each week.<\/p>\n

\u201cI checked his mail, which I liked,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

A year and a half ago, Burke\u2019s route changed. Saturday, the mailman who took over let Burke know Floyd\u2019s owner had died, and the dog was in the shelter.<\/p>\n

\u201cI went down to the shelter at about 10 a.m., that\u2019s when they open, I got there at about 9:50 to make sure I was first in line,\u201d Burke said.<\/p>\n

Burke was the first and he quickly adopted the dog.<\/p>\n

\u201cI kinda felt responsible to take care of him,\u201d he said. \u201cI think he\u2019d be pleased to know his former mailman is taking good care of his dog.\u201d<\/p>\n

Burke said he hopes sharing Floyd\u2019s story might encourage others to head to the shelter and give a dog a second chance.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s only been two days since the adoption and already Floyd is Burke\u2019s best friend.<\/p>\n

\u201cProbably one of the best things that the postal service inadvertently issued me,\u201d Burke said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
