Woman stabs roommate to death in self-defense, Mobile police say<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nPolice say a woman acted in self-defense when she fatally stabbed her roommate at their apartment in Mobile over the weekend.<\/p>\n

According to the Mobile Police Department, officers responded to a reported stabbing at One Ten Apartments near the University of South Alabama campus around 6:32 p.m. on Sunday<\/p>\n

Officers found two women who were injured.<\/p>\n

Joirdan Jones, 22, died after being taken to a hospital, police said in a statement. Her mother was also stabbed and injured, according to police.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe investigation revealed Joirdan and her mother were at the location retrieving Joirdan\u2019s belongings when an argument ensued with Joirdan\u2019s former roommate,\u201d the department said. \u201cThe argument turned physical, causing the roommate to defend herself by arming herself with a knife, ultimately stabbing Joirdan and the mother.\u201d<\/p>\n

Police did not release the roommate\u2019s name, as she was not charged.<\/p>\n

They said the case will be turned over to prosecutors to be presented to a grand jury.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Akron smoke shop employee shot while working Tuesday when 3 suspects broke in, police say<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nA 20-year-old man was hospitalized the morning of June 10 after being shot while working overnight at a smoke shop, Akron police Lt. Michael Murphy said in a press release.<\/p>\n

Officers responded to reports of the shooting in the 1600 block of Brittain Road at about 1:08 a.m., finding the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his right leg. Officers rendered emergency aid and he was transported to Summa Health with non-life-threatening injuries.<\/p>\n

Police determined that the victim had fallen asleep while working at Red Eye Smoke Shop when three unidentified suspects broke the front window of the store with a rock and entered the building. Once inside, they fired multiple shots at the victim, striking him in the leg.<\/p>\n

The victim returned fire at the suspects who subsequently fled the area.<\/p>\n

Akron police are investigating the incident. More than a dozen shell casings were collected from the scene as evidence.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
