A U.S. Marine acted quickly after noticing a man grab the emergency exit door.<\/p>\n

Sergeant Major Jody Armentrout, who has served in the Marines for 20 years, was on a flight from Tokyo to Houston on May 24, when he noticed a man acting suspicious. The fellow passenger took his backpack into one of the lavatories before he walked out, went into a second lavatory, and then a third.<\/p>\n

“He came out of that one and began pacing up and down the aisle, so that just threw my radar on,” Armentrout, who is stationed in Japan, told NBC News in a phone interview about his All Nippon Airways flight from Tokyo to Houston.<\/p>\n

Keeping a steady eye on the suspicious passenger, Armentrout, 50, said he saw the man eyeing the emergency exit door adjacent to him. That\u2019s when the Marine intervened by standing up and blocking the man\u2019s way to the door.<\/p>\n

Armentrout said he saw the passenger turn around and run straight through the galley to another emergency exit door. That\u2019s when Armentrout’s instincts and training kicked in.<\/p>\n

“He grabbed a strap around the door, pulled it off, and about that time is when I took him and slammed him, put him on the ground,” Armentrout told NBC News. “And then there was an older gentleman sitting on that side that woke up, and he got up and kind of helped me.”<\/p>\n

Flight attendants handed Armentrout zip ties to keep the man secured to the seat while the plane took a detour to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. In the meantime, Armentrout sat next to the man for the duration of the flight.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Armed citizen shoots, kills suspect after Pike Place Market shooting<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nA shooting near Seattle\u2019s Pike Place Market Wednesday night resulted in one death and two injuries.<\/p>\n

After the shooting broke out at approximately 10 p.m. at the corner of 1st Avenue and Union Street, Seattle Police Department (SPD) officers needed just two minutes to get to the scene and began lifesaving measures. Two of the responding officers were EMT-qualified, according to SPD.<\/p>\n

Three people were involved in an altercation before one of them pulled out a gun and fired at the other two individuals, injuring them both. The suspect then fled the scene.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen he did (flee), he encountered a private citizen who was licensed to carry,\u201d SPD Chief Shon Barnes told KIRO 7. \u201cThat private citizen fired his weapon, striking the suspect. We did recover the suspect\u2019s weapon, and that private citizen is cooperating with us and providing a statement at this time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Both victims and the suspect were taken to Harborview Medical Center. The suspect succumbed to their injuries and died at the hospital, while the two victims remain in serious condition.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

16-year-old killed, another injured in southwest Atlanta shooting, police say<\/strong><\/p>\n

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – A teen was killed and another was injured during a shooting in southwest Atlanta, according to police.<\/p>\n

Police said officers responded to 1191 Oakland Drive SW on Wednesday around 8:10 p.m. and found two 16-year-old boys suffering from gunshot wounds.<\/p>\n

Gabriel Seats, identified Thursday by the Fulton County Medical Examiner, was pronounced dead at the scene. According to police, the other was alert, conscious and breathing. They have not been identified.<\/p>\n

Investigators say Seats shot the other teen, wounding him. Then that teen returned fire, killing him.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe assailant shot the surviving 16-year-old who returned fire, striking and killing him,\u201d said Lt. Andrew Smith, homicide commander with the Atlanta Police Department.<\/p>\n

Police say they\u2019re aren\u2019t ruling out the possibility the deadly shooting was gang related.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
