Florida Man Swims in Lake Full of Alligators, Allegedly Attempts to Assault Police Officers with Garden Shears, Is Fatally Shot<\/strong>
\nThe incident took place on Memorial Day and has been linked to alleged drug use, according to police<\/em><\/p>\n

\nA 42-year-old man in Florida was fatally shot after surviving a swim through a lake full of alligators and allegedly attempting to assault police officers who responded to the scene.<\/p>\n

On Monday, May 26, Timothy Schulz died after members of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office opened fire on him, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said during a press briefing that was live-streamed on Facebook.<\/p>\n

Judd said that his officers were first alerted about Schulz that day when they received a call about him around 5:56 a.m. At the time, the 911 caller described him as being “bizarre” and “shaking” while at a local racetrack.<\/p>\n

Responding officers were unable to find him when they arrived at the track approximately three minutes after the call came in. Judd said that a search for Schulz went on for around half an hour before it was called off.<\/p>\n

A second call about Schulz came in around 7:43 a.m. In it, a witness described him as “this white guy,” noting that he was in a lake with “a lot of alligators.”<\/p>\n

Judd said that the caller was concerned that Schulz was “drunk or high or something.”<\/p>\n

Schulz reportedly refused a life preserver, which a witness offered him. Another reportedly ran away from the lake after Schulz “growled” at them.<\/p>\n

“Our deputies immediately arrived,” Judd said, noting that Schulz was able to get out of the lake and did appear to have sustained an injury to his arm. “As they were arriving, he was walking from the lake between the houses, and he had a set of garden shears with him.”<\/p>\n

The deputies allegedly witnessed Schulz attempting to break into a car by throwing a brick at the window. At that time, they attempted to arrest him using non-lethal measures.<\/p>\n

However, their attempts were unsuccessful, and he “immediately charged the deputies, holding the shears,” Judd alleged, recalling a conversation with a witness.<\/p>\n

Schulz was hit with a taser but continued to approach the police. Once he tried to reach into the police car in an apparent attempt to steal one of their firearms, the police opened fire.<\/p>\n

Judd said that he was “shot multiple times,” adding, “As a result, Timothy is deceased.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Raleigh Police Department is investigating a reported home invasion that escalated into a shootout Monday morning.<\/p>\n

The incident happened around 4:50 a.m. in the 1400 block of Gorman Street.<\/p>\n

According to authorities, the suspect entered the apartment and fired several shots, prompting the resident to return fire. No injuries were reported.<\/p>\n

RPD have identified the suspect, who remains at large.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
