Man dead, police investigating self-defense claim after shooting in South Nashville<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nNASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) \u2014 The Metro Nashville Police Department is investigating a claim of self-defense after a deadly shooting Saturday morning in South Nashville.<\/p>\n

The incident was reported at 1:50 a.m. on Saturday, May 10 outside of an apartment in the 200 block of Tampa Drive.<\/p>\n

According to authorities, an investigation found that the 48-year-old man victim arrived at an apartment and repeatedly knocked on the door asking to speak with a woman he knew.<\/p>\n

A 60-year-old man who reportedly lives at the apartment with his girlfriend answered the door and asked the victim to leave. The 60-year-old told authorities that the other man continued knocking, and during the third interaction, the 48-year-old man and the woman started fighting.<\/p>\n

According to police, the woman\u2019s boyfriend said he saw the other man reach for an item in his waistband, at which point the 60-year-old shot the victim once.<\/p>\n

The man called emergency services, but the victim \u2014 who had a BB pistol in his possession \u2014 was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials are working to notify his next of kin.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

One good definition of \u201chero\u201d is someone who rushes to another\u2019s aid, disregarding their personal safety to succor a fellow human being.
\nThere are other definitions, but this is the one that applies to the 82nd Airborne\u2019s Sergeant Brian Lieberman, a medic assigned to the 1st Brigade Combat Team, who rushed to the aid of a person not in the line of his military duties, but when a shooting occurred outside his apartment.<\/p>\n

Army Sgt. Brian Lieberman, 22, said he was \u201cjust doing my job\u201d when he saved the life of a 14-year-old girl during a shooting at his apartment complex. But the United States Army believes Lieberman is an American hero, meriting the Soldier\u2019s Medal.<\/p>\n

Lieberman, an Army medic, is assigned to the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.<\/p>\n

The Soldier\u2019s Medal is a significant award and is only presented to someone who has accepted a risk to his or her own life to carry out their duty.<\/p>\n

In Sergeant Lieberman\u2019s case, he saw a teenage girl hit in a drive-by shooting, rushed to help her, and protected her with his own body when the shooter returned.<\/p>\n

On June 5, 2023, a gunman attacked the Carrington Place apartment complex in North Carolina, shooting a teenage girl in the back. Army training instincts kicked in, and Lieberman rushed into the line of fire.
\nLieberman said to Fox News Digital.<\/p>\n

I looked out my window with my roommate and we heard people screaming and saw people running around by my complex pool, at which point I grabbed my weapon and ran out my front door while my roommate dialed 911.<\/p>\n

As I got downstairs, I approached a group of people and I threw my hands up and stated that I am an army medic and they pointed to an individual that was lying in the street. I was only able to locate a single gunshot wound to her lower back.<\/p>\n

Sergeant Lieberman, as he was trained, started to treat the wound. Then the gunman returned.<\/p>\n

The shooter\u2019s vehicle drove past us again, and my roommate yelled at me to get down. I threw myself over the girl while the shooters drove by [and] shot at us again, and then that was when I pulled my weapon out to return fire into the suspect\u2019s vehicle.<\/p>\n

Lieberman then continued seeing to the young victim\u2019s wounds until medical personnel arrived on-scene.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
