Suspect claims self-defense after shooting man in Napier neighborhood<\/strong>
\nThe man was taken to the hospital in critical condition, and the suspect later turned himself in and explained what led to the shooting.<\/em><\/p>\n

\nNASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – An injured man is facing charges upon his release from the hospital after an alleged robbery attempt went wrong Monday night in the J.C. Napier neighborhood.<\/p>\n

According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, 20-year-old Stile Felton-Patterson and 23-year-old Thomas Long were inside a Dodge Dart parked off Lafayette Street when Felton-Patterson was shot. Officers responded to the scene around 5 p.m. and rendered aid before medics arrived and transported him to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.<\/p>\n

Detectives tracked down surveillance footage that showed Felton-Patterson walk up to the car and get in the passenger seat. According to MNPD\u2019s report, an altercation occurred between the men, and Felton-Patterson is seen falling out of the car and running away.<\/p>\n

He later threw a gun toward a nearby witness and collapsed on the ground. Detectives recovered two firearms from that same witness, according to the report.<\/p>\n

Officers at the scene initially reported that Felton-Patterson was shot in the torso and the injury was non-life-threatening, but his condition was listed as critical in MNPD\u2019s report on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Long arrived at the downtown detention center later Monday night and claimed he shot Felton-Patterson in self-defense. He told detectives that Felton-Patterson was trying to rob him at gunpoint when he responded by shooting him with his own firearm.<\/p>\n

Long\u2019s self-defense claim is under investigation. Meanwhile, unrelated charges await Felton-Patterson when his discharged from the hospital. He faces aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a felony charges stemming from a June 2023 hold-up at a Brink Haven Avenue apartment.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\nOAKLAND \u2014 A confrontation Tuesday afternoon near Oakland City Hall left two men shot and both later arrested, authorities said.<\/p>\n

Both men \u2014 one 51 and the other 28 \u2014 were in stable condition. Both are Oakland residents and know each other, authorities said.<\/p>\n

The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. at the edge of the Oakland City Hall plaza near the intersection of 14th Street and Broadway, authorities said.<\/p>\n

Initial reports were that the 51-year-old man was with a group of other people who were approached by the 28-year-old man, authorities said. There was some kind of confrontation that ended with the 51-year-old man hitting the 28-year-old man with a chair, authorities said.<\/p>\n

The 28-year-old man then allegedly pulled a gun and shot the 51-year-old man in the abdomen, authorities said.<\/p>\n

As the 28-year-old man was trying to run away, he was shot in the leg by another person, authorities said. That shooter is still being sought.<\/p>\n

Both men shot were taken by ambulance to a hospital.<\/p>\n

They were both placed under arrest at the hospital, the 28-year-old man on suspicion of assault with a firearm and the 51-year-old man on suspicion of assault with a weapon other than a firearm, authorities said.<\/p>\n

Police have not yet offered a potential motive for the confrontation.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
