Kentucky child shot, killed alleged armed home invaders in self-defense, police say<\/strong>
\nAfter shooting the two alleged home intruders, the child escaped the Manchester, Kentucky home through a bedroom window.<\/em><\/p>\n

\nA child in Kentucky shot and killed two men in self-defense after they allegedly tried stealing firearms from a safe within a home, police said.<\/p>\n

The Manchester and Kentucky State police departments are investigating the home invasion that occurred on Saturday around 4:24 a.m., according to a Facebook post shared on Sunday. Manchester police officers responded to the child’s home in Clay County and found two men who had been shot, the social media post says.<\/p>\n

Kentucky State Police troopers, who were called by Manchester police to assist in the investigation, determined the two men injured men forcibly entered the home intending to steal the guns from a safe, the department’s Facebook post reads.<\/p>\n

It is unclear if any other adults were present in the home at the time.<\/p>\n

During the break-in, the child living in the home saw the intruders and noticed they were armed, police said. Acting in self-defense, the child got a handgun and shot both men before escaping through a bedroom window, according to police.<\/p>\n

The two deceased men were later identified as 44-year-old Roger D. Smith of McKee, Kentucky, and 51-year-old Jeffrey M. Allen, of Manchester, the department said. McKee died while being taken to a hospital, while Allen was pronounced deceased at the scene, police added.<\/p>\n

Both men were pronounced dead by Clay County Coroner over the weekend, the Facebook post says. Police noted that the investigation is still ongoing.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Police shoot, kill armed man after Muskegon Heights officer wounded<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nMUSKEGON HEIGHTS, MI — Police fatally shot an armed man just minutes after a gunfire exchange wounded a Muskegon Heights police officer.<\/p>\n

The police officer later was treated and released from a hospital.<\/p>\n

Muskegon Heights police said an officer was on his way to work about 7:45 a.m. Monday May 5 when he witnessed a disturbance in the 2300 block of Baker Street.<\/p>\n

The officer, who was in full uniform, stopped to handle the disturbance and, soon after, there was an exchange of gunfire between himself and another man.<\/p>\n

The officer was struck by gunfire, but was able to call for help and also give a description of the armed man.<\/p>\n

Police then learned about 7:51 a.m. that the armed man was on a home\u2019s porch in the 2400 block of Reynolds Street. He fired a gun at a passing vehicle, striking the vehicle but not injuring anyone inside.<\/p>\n

The homeowner, who had a gun, then fired at the armed man on the porch. Police said it appeared the armed man was struck and returned fire at the homeowner.<\/p>\n

The armed man then fled the porch.<\/p>\n

Officers from several police departments then converged on the Reynolds Street area.<\/p>\n

Two officers, one with Muskegon Heights and the other with Muskegon, then located the armed man in an alley in the 2400 block of Howden Street.<\/p>\n

Police said the person refused commands to drop the weapon, a handgun.<\/p>\n

Police said he appeared to point the gun at one of the officers. Both officers then fired their weapons, striking the man.<\/p>\n

Officers attempted life-saving measures and he was taken to an area hospital, but died.<\/p>\n

Muskegon Heights police said the man who died was wanted on charges of assault with intent to do great bodily harm, felonious assault, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and being a habitual offender.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
